How to Change Nameservers

Learn how to point your domain to AISweb hosting by updating nameservers

Changing Your Domain Nameservers

Nameservers are what connect your domain name to your hosting server. When you purchase hosting with AISweb, you'll need to update your domain's nameservers to point to our servers so your website can go live.

AISweb Nameservers

Use these nameservers for all domains hosted with AISweb:

ns1.aisweb.com.au
ns2.aisweb.com.au
ns3.aisweb.com.au
ns4.aisweb.com.au

Note: All nameservers are required for proper DNS redundancy and reliability.

Before You Begin

Important things to know:

  • Propagation Time: DNS changes can take 24-48 hours to fully propagate worldwide

  • Domain Registrar Access: You need login access to where your domain is registered

  • Email Impact: If you have existing email, make sure your MX records are configured in cPanel before changing nameservers

  • Website Downtime: Your website may be temporarily unavailable during propagation

Step 1: Find Your Domain Registrar

Your domain registrar is the company where you purchased your domain name. Common registrars include:

  • GoDaddy

  • Namecheap

  • Domain.com

  • Google Domains (now Squarespace Domains)

  • Crazy Domains

  • VentraIP

  • Melbourne IT

If you're not sure, you can check at WHOIS lookup.

Step 2: Log Into Your Registrar Account

  1. Go to your domain registrar's website

  2. Log in with your account credentials

  3. Navigate to your domain management or domain list

  4. Select the domain you want to update

Step 3: Locate Nameserver Settings

The location of nameserver settings varies by registrar, but look for options labeled:

  • "Nameservers"

  • "DNS Management"

  • "Name Server Settings"

  • "DNS Settings"

  • "Domain Settings"

Step 4: Change to Custom Nameservers

  1. Select the option to use "Custom Nameservers" or "Custom DNS"

  2. Remove any existing nameservers

  3. Enter the AISweb nameservers:

    ns1.aisweb.com.au
    ns2.aisweb.com.au
    ns3.aisweb.com.au
    ns4.aisweb.com.au

  4. Save your changes

Step 5: Verify the Changes

After updating your nameservers, you can verify the changes:

  1. Wait at least 1-2 hours for initial propagation

  2. Use an online DNS checker like WhatsMyDNS.net

  3. Enter your domain name and select "NS" record type

  4. Check if ns1.aisweb.info and ns2.aisweb.info appear

Understanding Propagation

DNS propagation is the time it takes for nameserver changes to update across the internet:

  • Typical Time: 4-24 hours

  • Maximum Time: Up to 48 hours

  • Why It Takes Time: DNS servers worldwide cache old information and update gradually

  • Regional Differences: Your site may work in some locations before others

What Happens During Propagation?

  • Your website may appear offline intermittently

  • Some visitors will see your old site, others your new site

  • Email delivery may be delayed

  • This is completely normal and temporary

After Nameservers Are Updated

Once propagation is complete:

  1. Your domain will point to your AISweb hosting

  2. Upload your website files via cPanel File Manager or FTP

  3. Set up email accounts in cPanel

  4. Install SSL certificate (free with all hosting plans)

  5. Test your website thoroughly

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Changes Not Taking Effect

  • Double-check you entered the nameservers correctly (no typos)

  • Ensure you saved the changes at your registrar

  • Wait the full 48 hours for propagation

  • Clear your browser cache and DNS cache

Domain Locked

Some domains have a "registrar lock" or "transfer lock" that prevents changes. You'll need to unlock the domain first in your registrar's control panel before changing nameservers.

Missing Nameserver Fields

Most registrars require at least 2 nameservers. If you only see fields for 2 nameservers, that's fine - just use ns1.aisweb.info and ns2.aisweb.info.

Email Stops Working

If you had email with a previous provider, you'll need to either:

  • Set up new email accounts in cPanel, or

  • Use custom MX records to point to your old email provider

Contact support if you need help configuring external email services.

Alternative: Using Child Nameservers

Some customers prefer to use child nameservers that match their domain:

  • ns1.yourdomain.com.au

  • ns2.yourdomain.com.au

Contact our support team if you'd like to set up child nameservers for your domain.

When NOT to Change Nameservers

You might not need to change nameservers if:

  • You only want to host email with AISweb (use MX records instead)

  • You want to keep your existing DNS provider

  • You're using a third-party DNS service like Cloudflare

In these cases, you can use A records to point your domain instead. Contact support for assistance.
